Gurgaon, the heart of the industrial and financial sector of Haryana is located just 30 kms south of the capital Delhi. Gurgaon is one of the major satellite cities, and is part of the National Capital Region. Gurgaon has the third highest per capita income in India after Mumbai and Chandigarh. However, Gurgaon was not always like this, it was a small farming village, with vast undeveloped farming lands. Due to Delhi's economic rise and migration of labourers from other regions, increasing Delhi's population, Gurgaon developed residential and commercial sectors.
In the past 25 years Gurgaon has undergone massive development and construction work. Hordes of multinational companies have setup house here. It all started with GE in 1997, and soon companies like American Express, IBM, Microsoft, DLF, Bank of America and many more followed suit. Not only this Gurgaon has become a hotbed for the biggest and coolest malls in the country, this real estate boom in Gurgaon has led to the construction and opening of some very glamorous malls like Ambience mall, Sahara Mall, DLF Mega Mall, DLF City Centre Mall, Vishal Mega Mart, MGF Metropolitan Mall. These shopping malls established at different regions of Gurgaon have superseded the competition of the local markets and are home to some of the biggest Indian and International brands. The biggest boon to Gurgaon in recent times has been the setting up of the Gurgaon-Qutub Minar section of Delhi Metro opened to public on 21 June 2010. The travel time for the 30 km between Qutub Minar and HUDA city centre on the currently open section is around 14 minutes. With this new development Gurgaon has become even more accessible to the people of Delhi.
